These are various plants we saw while in North Dakota. For your viewing pleasure:
K knew the name of this one – juniper berries!

A cactus this far north? We didn’t expect that!
(Ein Kaktus so weit im Norden? Das hatten wir nicht erwartet!)
I thought the contrast between the red trail and the various greens of the grasses bordering the trail was particularly striking.
(Ich dachte das der Kontrast zwischen dem rotem Pfad und das grüne Gras besonders schön war.)
Nice! Although I disappointed you didn't see any "jack-in-the-pulpts" 🙂
We will continue to keep an eye out for them! In Arkansas at Mount Magazine, there was actually a sign in the Visitor Center that they were in that area, but they keep eluding us.
