Ice Climbing Lesson in Telluride

Ice Climbing Lesson in Telluride

Share the Adventure:

Ice climbing has long intrigued us, so while on vacation we took an ice climbing class through the San Juan Outdoor School. It was just our guide and the two of us. We got lucky and had the owner as our instructor and in addition to everything he knows and was able to show us he was just a fun guy to hang out with. We didn’t have to drive far from the town of Telluride to get to a…

Joshua Tree National Park, CA

Joshua Tree National Park, CA

Share the Adventure:

Joshua Tree has a reputation as being one of the best places for rock climbing in the world. It is well deserved. We did a LOT of climbing while we were here, trying to take advantage of the amazing climbing, and we only just scratched the surface. There is a lifetime’s worth of climbing here. B joined us again for a bit of climbing. We’re kinda jealous he’s living so close to this area and will be able to climb…

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, CA

Sequoia and Kings Canyon were both amazing. Our first stop was the Sequoia area. Our good friend B, with whom we had caved and climbed in the DC area before he also moved away, came out from the LA area. We all spent a day rock climbing and checking out some of the park. Here are pictures from rock climbing. We found a wall on the hillside above the Hospital Rocks parking lot and found a route that we could…

Peshastin Pinnacles Rock Climbing

Peshastin Pinnacles Rock Climbing

Share the Adventure:

Peshastin Pinnacles State Park is located near Leavenworth, WA. We spent one of our days in this area doing some rock climbing here. We had seen the sandstone slabs on our way in to Leavenworth and thought it would be worth checking out. There are numerous rock formations. We decided to do a route called the Martian Diagonal on the Martian Slab formation. Although a local guidebook called this a 5.6, K thinks the this route may be a bit…

Spokane Rock Climbing

There were so many places to go climbing in and around the area that we ended up just picking a couple to scout out and then climb later.  Due to their close proximity, we chose Minnehaha and The Rocks of Sharon.  We heard that some of the best climbing in the area was in Post Falls, ID, but that it is also more crowded.  We’ll just have to check it out during another visit. The Rocks of Sharon are a…

We knew that there would be tons of great rock climbing in SD, and we made it a point to plan for a lot of days on which we would do this. The way K put it, we would “climb our brains out.” Of the 11 days that we were in SD, we climbed on 6 days so we were pretty pleased by this. One of these was the day of guided climbing with Sylvan Rocks and another was the…

Guided Climbing in Custer State Park, SD

Guided Climbing in Custer State Park, SD

Share the Adventure:

As we packed up and left our campsite in ND, the weather had actually cleared up and made for a very nice drive down to SD.  Once we were setup in our new location, we went to bed early so we could meet our climbing guide in Custer State Park first thing in the morning. It was a little bit of mad house when we first arrived at the parking lot that we were to meet up in.  There were…

Mount Magazine, Arkansas

Mount Magazine, Arkansas

Share the Adventure:

Mount Magazine is a really nice state park that we just happened to stumble upon while we were looking up places to rock climb nearby. It was a little over an hour drive from our campsite. The state park sits up on the ridge overlooking a large valley. The views are amazing. There is a lodge and there are several cabins that sit right on the edge. Seems like a wonderful place to spend a weekend, but we were only…
