Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum

The Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum in Golden, Colorado is an unexpectedly interesting museum. We might not have otherwise found and visited it, but when we first moved to Denver we still had some time off before going back to work.

We decided to check out some local attractions when not busy house hunting or waiting to move in and stumbled upon this little gem.

We definitely recommend a quick stop here when visiting Golden in the Denver area. The museum is also free so you can’t beat that.

Colorado Exhibits

On the main level there are a lot of exhibit cases with minerals from Colorado and other states.

Worldwide Exhibits

There are also numerous cases with items from around the world.

Fluorescent Minerals

There is an alcove showing fluorescent minerals.

Fossils

There is also a petrified wood and fossil corner. I really like the leaf fossils.

Meteorites

On the lower level there is a section for meteorites.

This one is familiar to us! Meteor Crater!

Moon Rocks

And we really enjoyed seeing and reading about the moon rocks on display.
