Humboldt Redwoods State Park
Humboldt Redwoods State Park is in northern California about an hour inland of the coast. Outside of Redwood National Park, it’s another fantastic location to view redwoods.
The main thing you’ll want to do when visiting Humboldt Redwoods State Park is cruising through the Avenue of the Giants. This makes for a really nice day excursion. Plan to stop at numerous points to walk around.

Avenue of the Giants
The Avenue of the Giants is a 31 mile scenic drive. It is State Route 254 and parallels Highway 101.
Founders Grove
One of the spots you’ll want to stop along the Avenue of the Giants is the Founders Grove. Look for the Founders Tree within the Founders Grove.

Keep an eye out for redwood seedlings sprouting up around the base of a some of the redwoods.

You’ll see evidence of forest fires.

And upended trees with huge roots.
You can find various cutouts to peek through for fun pictures.


Where To Go Next
Head north and visit Redwood National and State Parks next for sure! You really can’t see too many redwoods.
You can also head a bit south and visit San Francisco or Sacramento.
