The Southern Oregon coast near Brookings is the perfect location for a quick weekend getaway. We visit Harris Beach State Park and see Arch Rock, tide pools, and surging waves. We hike Indian Sands Trail along coastal cliffs and across dunes. It’s the perfect RV weekend getaway in the Pacific Northwest. I still can’t believe that this was the first time we have had an overnight trip with just the two of us since having kids!

Camping on the Coast Near Brookings, Oregon

We managed to snatch a full-hookup RV site reservation at Harris Beach State Park so that we could have a quick weekend getaway. We really lucked out because finding reservations on the Oregon Coast have been really difficult this year. Which isn’t surprising considering how cooped up many of have been with the pandemic. We were ready to go out and do some exploring after spending 6 weeks at my (Kevin’s) parents’ house working on our solar install, so we jumped at the chance. The kids got to spend 2 nights with their grandparents and the parents got some much needed couple’s time. It was a win-win! Many thanks to my Mom and Dad for making this happen!

The Secret to Last Minute Reservations

We use Reserve America for booking State and National Park sites online. I think every state has its own reservation system too (such as https://oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com). One secret I like to use to grab those difficult-to-get sites is that when there is no availability for your selected dates, you have the option to create an availability notification. If someone makes a last minute cancellation, you will get an email. Make sure you book it fast though before someone else does!
