It’s Been A While… Time for an Update!

Share the Adventure:

Hello! It has been ages since we have posted an update here… Life’s adventures certainly haven’t stopped, we just haven’t reported on them in a while. Update We are, of course, still in the Denver area. Since our last post I resigned from my job (yet again) to start my own business which is coming along well and I am hoping to have it officially up and running soon. There is always a lot going on in our lives: little…

K’s Dad’s Visit

K’s Dad’s Visit

Share the Adventure:

My dad also came for a visit around the end of summer. We did our best to give him a whirlwind tour of the area since he was only here for a weekend.  There are so many things to see in this area that we spent a lot of time driving around and sightseeing. Our first stop the day after he landed was Roxborough State Park.  This place has quickly turned into one of our go-to places for guests that…

Mt. Bierstadt

Mt. Bierstadt

Share the Adventure:

Mt. Bierstadt is generally considered one of the easiest of Colorado’s 14,000+ foot mountains to climb.  Although there is nothing easy about climbing steep trails at that altitude. From the top of Mt. Evans, Mt. Bierstadt’s summit is less than a mile and a half away.  After driving up there twice, C and I had been thinking a lot about going for a summit bid on foot.  Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for C to go.  She was on a…

Redwoods National Park

Redwoods National Park

Share the Adventure:

Redwoods National Park is a strange mixture of State and National Parks.  When the national park was founded there were already several state parks in the area, so the national park just fills in the space around them.  It made it a little confusing at first to try and plan what we wanted to see, but once we got out there it was just a matter of driving up and down HWY 101 and stopping at the different sites along…

Florence, OR

Florence, OR

Share the Adventure:

Our last stop on the Oregon coast was the area around Florence, OR.  My family used to go camping in Honeyman State Park when I was little, so it was a bit of a trip down memory lane since this was my first time back here in 15 years or so. On our way down from Tillamook we stopped at Devils Punch Bowl State Park.  It’s basically a giant bowl that was naturally carved out of the sandstone cliffs on…

Colchuck Lake Hike

Colchuck Lake Hike

Share the Adventure:

We hadn’t heard of this hike until my sister’s husband mentioned it during our stay in Spokane.  We had every intention of doing some hiking while in the Leavenworth area, but we didn’t think we’d know of any awesome hikes until we arrived in the area and maybe checked with the local National Forest ranger station.  The trail to Colchuck lake is about 9 miles round trip and has 2200 ft of elevation gain. Let me just say that the…

Spokane Rock Climbing

Spokane Rock Climbing

Share the Adventure:

There were so many places to go climbing in and around the area that we ended up just picking a couple to scout out and then climb later.  Due to their close proximity, we chose Minnehaha and The Rocks of Sharon.  We heard that some of the best climbing in the area was in Post Falls, ID, but that it is also more crowded.  We’ll just have to check it out during another visit. The Rocks of Sharon are a…

Spokane, WA – Not the same town I moved away from!

Share the Adventure:

After a long, enjoyable stay, we bid Montana adieu and continued west again toward Spokane, WA.  My sister was the only one in the family who stayed in the town we grew up in and it was nice to see her and her husband (both are J names, so I know this is going to be tedious, but yes, we will refer to them as J and J).J and J live in a nice house just over 4 miles from…

Glacier National Park, MT – Avalanche Lake

Glacier National Park, MT – Avalanche Lake

Share the Adventure:

Avalanche Lake was probably our second favorite hike in the park and another must see for anyone who visits. It was an awesome hike for a variety of reasons.  The river that you follow up to the lake was a raging torrent that flooded out several areas and watching the bright blue water streaming through the trees made for a nice effect. The lake itself is contained within a basin with high cliffs on 3 sides.  Since there was so…

Lolo Hot Springs and Missoula, MT

Share the Adventure:

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind.  We have been visiting with family almost the entire time and have also been really active.  Now it is catch-up time! After our stay in Arco, ID, we continued north to a little tourist trap called Lolo Hot Springs.  It was about a 40 minute drive from Missoula, so we spent a few days here to explore the area.  Another reason for this particular stop was that it would make for…
