5th Wheel RV Boondocking At The Wedge and Woman Standing On Edge of Canyon

The Wedge + Little Grand Canyon

Share the Adventure:

Without a doubt, this has been our favorite boondocking spot to date. Of course, we haven’t done a huge amount of it yet, but this was one of those sites that you are sorry to leave. The Wedge is a peninsula that juts out into Utah’s Little Grand Canyon of the San Rafael River. It is the sort of place where you are thinking about coming back as soon as you pull out of your campsite. Click below for Part 1 of our adventures in Utah:

The San Rafael Swell

A state that boasts 5 fantastic national parks obviously doesn’t need anything else to draw tourists or satisfy outdoor adventure seekers. Therefore, it’s no surprise we hadn’t heard about this place beforehand. The San Rafael Swell is a 75 mile by 40 mile area of the Colorado Plateau that was uplifted by geologic forces. Home to numerous gorges, arches, slot canyons, and petroglyphs, we only had time to explore a small portion of it on this trip.

Free Camping at The Wedge

Almost the entire area is managed by the BLM. In other words, there are an endless number of of places to camp for a maximum of 14 days. Campendium is an excellent resource not just for free camping, but for RV parks all over the country as well. As always, it helps a lot to do your research before you arrive. Especially with a larger RV.

Full Hookups Near The Little Grand Canyon

If boondocking isn’t your thing, Huntington State Park is only 45 minutes away. Unfortunately, the sites closest to the lake do not have full hookups. Even though it was not on the lake, we recommend site number 24.
